Check Hot Asian Chicks....

Issue 5 / March 2010: Choc

http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1257789

My Magazine Project is an on-going reproducing magazine project, which starts from March, 2009. So far, I already have 5 issues. They are all kinds of magazines I collect from my daliy life.
Sorry for being late...I stopped this project about 3 months in order to prepare my life after graduation. The studio space in Atlanta Contemporary Art Center provides me the woderful environment to resume this exciting project.
On my trip back Taipei in summer, 2009, I bought several authentic and popular commercial magazines as my souvenirs for my motherland. Choc (恰女生)is the first magazine in Taiwan devoted to teenager fashion and style. In my work, I mainly adapt images from two~three Taiwanese fashion or cosmetic magazines, "alter" images and then republish into a new magazine.
The speciality of this issue is the usage of "Foam." This is not my first time using foam but it is the first time that I use so much amount in "My Magazine." I hope you will enjoy it!

No matter how much luxurious clothing we put on, we still cannot hide their true faces. After excavating their true parts beneath the flesh, we will reconstruct another pretty and messy paradise.” - YI-HSIN TZENG

YI-HSIN TZENG

This show presents several large-scale paintings based on Tzeng’s recent transformed image series titled, The Big Breast Calendar published by Taschen Diary (2009). The work contains nude females showing their giant breasts with affected gestures covered in part by painting patterns and strokes. Popular iconography, defaced and altered, brings questions of sexuality and the grotesque into sharp focus.

Tzeng collects large amounts of international commercial images from her daily visual environment. The action of altering and appropriating not only establishes her regurgitated aesthetics but also proclaims a regained control of the image. Please visit the online store of the artist for further inquiry:
Yi-Hsin Tzeng defaces selected images with playful mark-making, and then has an ongoing commitment to a series of publishing projects - a new edition of the magazine is available every two months. In this show, viewers can appreciate the original pages and the final transformed product at the same time.

When I was in Lacoste...

City girl went to country side again...
Lacoste is a super super... small town on the south part of France. Most people only know the clothing brand-Lacoste, a crocodile.

However, I really like the atmosphere in Europe, very relaxing, comfortable, simple and a little bite socialism.

Ending in NYC...

After coming back NYC last week, I started to pack everything and recovered my studio, accompanying with complicated feeling. I feel happy because I finish this residency; I feel sad because I need to say goodbye to this studio and make my painting "disappeared."

In this piece "Flow on the Floor," I reproduce my floor on my wall. All the yellow semi-liquid materials come from pipes and pour onto the "floor." And then they encounter with another blue power from sewer. I used latex, acrylic, garbage, telephone, and foam.
Now, I need to pay the price....for my crazy idea.

Here is the process
Step 1:

Step 2:
Step 3:

Wnen I was in Vermont

working...
snowing...

living... Eating...
Open Studio...

goodbye...

Residency is like a dream...Everything is so pretty but surreal .
Residency is like a pack of
instant noodle...everything is put together so short and condensed.

Beginning point, process and ending points all perfectly fit into 30 days.
Nothing is good or bad, because this is just a snack. However, eating too much may result in cancer.
Friendship, eating habits even desire are all temporary.

I even questioned myself that had I ever been there?

Goodbye, Johnson!

Please Take A, C, E to 42nd Street (Port Auth)

When I posted this, it means my residency is coming to the end.
I am glad I chose to stay NYC for my fall quarter, because there are too many exciting showes going on. (though I didn't have lots of time checking everyone...>O<) It is pretty important for me to "witness" the real piece from my favorite artists. Therefore, I took the risk, again... In this series, I find new material and new way to present my work. Maybe it is just like what Craig said:
...the qualities that are truly Yi-Hsin are coming to the surface more...

Please pass the news to your friends or anyone may come...
Thank you very much!
Have a great final week..
